DRAUGHT ALES

Our bar managers have been trained looking after real ales and all have passed the Daniel Thwaites Cellar craftsman diploma.

Thwaites Original (ABV 3.6%)

Thwaites Original Bitter Font A beer that is as Original today as it was when Daniel Thwaites himself began brewing in 1807 and has been the backbone of the Brewery’s success over two centuries.

Back in the 1800s, the thousands of loomers and weavers enjoyed the beer after their long, arduous shifts in the east-Lancashire mills. The Mill Owners were keen to ensure their workforce were fit again for the next day and so a thirst quenching beer like Thwaites Original, that was relatively light in alcohol, was just what was needed. The workers could satisfy their thirst on a great beer and were still queuing at the Mill Gates the following morning.

Tasting Notes

A clean, polished and refreshing session beer with a glowing amber appearance. Brewed using premium grade Maris Otter malt and traditional English hops, Thwaites Original has a great malt flavour with a superb dry aftertaste.

Thwaites Wainwrights (ABV 4.1%)

Wainwright Pump ClipBrewed as one of the celebratory beers for the Bi-centenary, Wainwright is named after Alfred Wainwright, the renowned Lakeland author who was born in Blackburn in 1907. His seven guide books to the Lakes, which have sold more than two million copies, have inspired generations of walkers to enjoy the breath-taking beauty of Lakeland and Cumbria, such is their popularity.

Wainwright (4.1% ABV) is a refreshing straw-coloured beer with soft fruit flavours and a hint of sweetness from the fine malt. Utterly drinkable!

Lancaster Bomber (4.4% abv)

Lancaster Bomber FontThwaites Lancaster Bomber shot to fame when England and Lancashire Cricketer, Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff, endorsed it during the 2005 Ashes series win over Australia. It is now on the shirts of his team mates at Lancashire CCC as the club’s official sponsor and continues to have a successful partnership with cricket in the North.

Tasting NotesChestnut in colour, Lancaster Bomber has a warming, full-flavoured taste, with a hint of toffee and biscuit and a very moreish flavour.
